To make a day of it

Château de Chabenet stands in Le Pont-Chrétien-Chabenet (Indre), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Standing on the left bank of the Creuse near the village of Chabenet, this fortified castle dates from the second half of the 15th century, completed in 1471 under the reign of Louis XI. Its history spans the Wars of Religion, a partial demolition ordered by Richelieu in 1635, and a restoration carried out in the mid-19th century on the advice of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. During the Second World War, the site was also used to hide artworks from the Louvre and the Rouen fine arts museum.
