To make a day of it

Château de Bouesse stands in Bouesse (Indre), in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The château de Bouesse stands above the Creuse valley, on the edge of the Berry region. Built in the 13th century by Eudes de Cluis, it passed in 1462 to the Gaucourt family at the request of King Louis XI, who had it remodelled thirty years later to provide more comfortable living quarters, with wide windows and a south-facing terrace. Its 32-metre keep, pierced with arrow slits and topped with machicolations carved with four coats of arms, still conveys the defensive character of the original structure, while a tympanum showing two angels recalls the favours granted by the crown to the Gaucourt family. Restored since 2020 by its current owners, the estate now operates as a guesthouse and event venue.

What to know

  • The château now operates as a guesthouse and event venue rather than a monument open for public visits.
  • The property offers five rooms and suites furnished with period pieces, along with a separate cottage and a tower that can host groups.
  • Reception rooms are available for weddings and seminars, with the option of an outdoor marquee in summer.
  • Bookings are made directly with the château, as no public visiting hours or admission fees are listed.
