To make a day of it

Château de Cadarache stands in Saint-Paul-lès-Durance (Bouches-du-Rhône), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 15th century). No visits are on record for this building.

Overlooking the confluence of the Verdon and Durance rivers, the château de Cadarache is a Provençal bastide whose origins trace back to an 11th-century castrum, destroyed in the 14th century and rebuilt in its present form in the 15th century by Honoré de Berre. Its medieval Provençal architecture remains visible today, with an inner courtyard, a keep, mullioned windows and canal-tile roofs. The site was taken over and restored in the 1960s by the French Atomic Energy Commission, which turned it into a hotel and restaurant.
