To make a day of it

Château de Saint-Martin stands in Saint-Martin-de-Pallières (Var), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages, 17th century, 18th century, 19th century). Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Perched on a hillock overlooking the village and the Pallières plateau, the château of Saint-Martin-de-Pallières keeps the outline of a square keep flanked by four towers, a legacy of a feudal dwelling first recorded in the 13th century. Converted into a summer residence in the 17th century and later restored after damage suffered during the Revolution, it stands alongside a French-style park laid out in the 18th century and a vaulted underground cistern covering 500 square metres, nicknamed the underground cathedral. Owned by the same family since Adélaïde de Laurens married Gilles de Boisgelin in 1774, the estate is still lived in today.
