To make a day of it

Château de La Verdière stands in La Verdière (Var), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Standing above the village that bears its name, this castle in the Var originated as a stronghold built around 980 by the Castellane family. Enlarged and reshaped over eight centuries by the Vintimille, Castellane and later Forbin families, it grew by the 18th century into the largest seigneurial residence in Provence. Its interior still holds an exceptional set of carved gypsum decorations, said to be the most extensive of its kind in France.
