To make a day of it

Château du Thor stands in Le Thor (Vaucluse), in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

At the edge of the village of Le Thor, in the Vaucluse, this former seigneurial castle leans on the branches of the Sorgue river and on the town walls it once helped defend. Built mainly in the 13th century and reworked through the 18th, the building combines medieval remains with later machicolations added more for display than defence, and facades updated under the Ancien Régime. Traces remain of its 19th century use as a silk and then a plaster works, along with a plane tree avenue leading down to the river.
