Built in the third quarter of the 18th century for a wealthy ironworks owner connected to the royal cloth manufactory of Châteauroux, the château de Bouges recalls the pleasure residences raised away from the court, on the site of an older fortified house that was demolished to make way for a clean, symmetrical design. It is visited today together with its outbuildings, gardens and park, a setting that layers several periods of landscaping, from 18th century terraces to French-style gardens recreated around 1900. State owned, the building and its grounds are listed as a historic monument.
