To make a day of it

Château d'Écoyeux stands in Écoyeux (Charente-Maritime), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century, 16th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

In Écoyeux, Charente-Maritime, this château begun in the early 17th century by Louis de Polignac was never finished: only half of the planned main building stands today. Its most distinctive feature is a polygonal five-sided stair tower topped with a slate roof, an unusual design for the area. Left unoccupied by successive owners for generations, the building underwent a gradual restoration starting in 1952. The grounds also include a garden listed in the preliminary inventory of remarkable gardens.
