To make a day of it

Château d'Avigneau stands in Escamps (Yonne), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 17th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

The château d'Avigneau stands in a secluded hamlet of the commune of Escamps, in the Yonne department, away from the village centre. A privately owned residence still lived in today, it dates back to the Renaissance but owes its present appearance to a 17th century restoration, and still retains a three arched stone bridge along with two round towers from its former fortified enclosure. The building itself is closed to visitors, but a footpath running alongside the grounds offers views of its façades, the 18th century gateway and the remains of the moat.
