What the French Ministry of Culture records

Dès le 11e siècle, le château défendait la frontière avec la Normandie. L'édifice actuel remonte au début du 16e siècle et au 18e, et domine un jardin en terrasses. Essentiellement vivrier jusqu'au milieu du 18e siècle, le jardin, clos de murs est d'abord " anglais ", avec pièces d'eau et bosquets. C'est en 1928 qu'il prend sa physionomie actuelle, à tendance italienne. La terrasse intermédiaire est dessinée à l'imitation d'un parterre d'eau de la villa Gamberaia, près de Florence. La terrasse supérieure s'inspire d'un tableau de Paul Brill (1554-1626) conservé à la villa Artena, près de Rome. Devant la demeure, la terrasse supérieure présente un alignement de la fin de l'Ancien Régime, conduisant à une vue dégagée sur la vallée. Un motif rayonnant de haies, une structure en damier avec topiaires évoquant un jeu d'échecs, témoignent de l'évolution, dans les années 1980, de l'aménagement conçu dans l'Entre-deux-guerres. Une serre, un pédiluve, et un verger complètent l'ensemble. Les communs datent pour partie du 17e siècle.
