To make a day of it

Château de La Roche-Guyon stands in La Roche-Guyon (Val-d'Oise), in the Île-de-France region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument. Adult admission costs 9.5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Set against the Vexin hillside above the Seine, this castle combines a medieval fortress carved into the cliff with an 18th-century residence built at its foot. The circular keep, raised in the 12th century by Guy de La Roche, still dominates the site, while the reception rooms and kitchen garden reflect the later work of the La Rochefoucauld family. A staircase cut through the rock links the two parts of the estate. Since 2010, contemporary artworks, including columns by Daniel Buren, have been placed among the old stonework.
