To make a day of it

Château d'Albon stands in Albon (Drôme), in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: Middle Ages). No visits are on record for this building.

Set on a ridge above the Valloire valley, the ruins of Albon castle mark the birthplace of the Albon family, the comital house that gave rise to the Dauphiné of Viennois. The site retains a 13th century keep, the remains of a Romanesque chapel and a residential aula, together with an artificial mound shaped from the 11th century onward. Visitors come chiefly for the scale of the archaeological remains and the view over the Rhône plain, facing the château d'Anjou.
