To make a day of it

Château d'Abzac stands in Abzac (Gironde), in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: third quarter of the 17th century, third quarter of the 18th century, second half of the 18th century). The building is privately owned and no visits are on record.

Set on a promontory above the Isle valley, Abzac castle was built around 1660 on the site of a medieval fortified house razed by the English during the Hundred Years' War. Its long rectangular main building, flanked by pavilions under Périgord-style roofs, is arranged around a courtyard closed off by an ornamental gate. The estate has remained linked since the 17th century to the mill standing below on the Isle, now home to a cardboard manufacturing company.
