Built in the 13th century in the Forez mountains, Chalmazel castle overlooks the Lignon valley in the commune of Chalmazel-Jeansagnière, in the Loire department. Originally designed as a stronghold meant to resist any assault, it passed from the Marcilly family to their heirs, the Talaru. Listed as a historic monument, the building is now visited for its defensive architecture and elevated position.
