Perched on a volcanic outcrop overlooking the Forez plain, Sainte-Anne castle occupies a fortified site first recorded in 1010, once one of the strongholds of the counts of Forez. Largely demolished on Richelieu's orders, the site kept its chapel, and in the 19th century industrialist Hyppolite de Sauzéa had it rebuilt as a residence with its distinctive round towers. Since the late 1980s the grounds have hosted the Volerie du Forez, a falconry show venue. The castle holds no historic monument listing.
