Tour du Temple stands in Paris (Paris), in the Île-de-France region of France. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The tower of the Temple no longer stands: this fortress built by the Templars in the Marais from 1240 onwards was demolished in 1808 on the orders of Napoleon I, who wanted to erase a site that had become a place of royalist pilgrimage. Today one visits its former location, in the northern part of the 3rd arrondissement, more for its history than for any standing structure: it was here that Louis XVI and his family were imprisoned between 1792 and 1795, and where the young Louis XVII died. A visit here means tracing a vanished site while walking through the neighbourhood around what is now the town hall of the 3rd arrondissement.
