The building is registered as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: first quarter of the 17th century, fourth quarter of the 19th century). Located in Les Gonds, in the Charente-Maritime region, the Métairie des Pères is a farming estate dating from the early 17th century, long owned by the Jesuit college of Saintes before being sold as national property during the French Revolution. Visitors find two separate courtyards: a working courtyard lined with outbuildings, and an honour courtyard enclosed by a low wall with moulded piers, leading to the main house. The house is notable for its central stair pavilion, taller than the rest of the building, and its doorway decorated with Tuscan pilasters.
