Un château fort existait déjà au 12e siècle, à proximité de l'église actuelle, qui a été détruit. Le manoir, construit après 1533, est un bon exemple de l'architecture de la première Renaissance en Anjou. Après la Révolution, le château est rendu à ses propriétaires qui le font aménager au goût du jour, en particulier la décoration intérieure, réalisée en 1806 par le sculpteur d'Angers David qui se fait aider de son fils, David d'Angers (lambris, trumeaux, dessus-de-porte, papiers peints Empire, ...).
