At Saint-Bômer-les-Forges, in the Orne department, the manoir de la Bérardière stands in granite at the end of a tree-lined avenue, between its main courtyard and an enclosed garden. Built at the very end of the 17th century for a lawyer from Domfront, it still holds a medieval pavilion from an earlier building, now used as a library. Inside, a Louis XIII oak staircase leads to several rooms panelled in 18th century woodwork, one of them carved with hunting scenes. The estate, linked to the Norman chouannerie and to the fighting of 1944, has kept its park of landscaped walks intact.
