Ancien manoir de la Chaslerie stands in La Haute-Chapelle (Orne), in the Normandie region of France. The building is listed as a historic monument (dating recorded in the Mérimée database: 14th century, fourth quarter of the 16th century, first quarter of the 17th century, milieu 18th century). At the end of a five hundred metre avenue, in the Orne countryside near Domfront, this Norman manor forms a fortified hamlet in its own right: a main house with turret towers dated 1598, a 14th century chapel, a dovecote, stables and moats. The long wall pierced with gun loops that flanks the house still speaks to the defensive concerns of the period, a legacy of the unrest following the Wars of Religion. The enclosed courtyard, the gatehouse with its domed roof and the roofs crowned with carved finials known locally as 'boules de noblesse' make up a remarkably coherent ensemble.
