To make a day of it

Fortifications de Rouen stands in Rouen (Seine-Maritime), in the Normandie region of France. No visits are on record for this building.

What visitors find in Rouen is not a single castle but the layered remains of three successive walled enclosures that protected the city from Gallo-Roman times through the late Middle Ages. Of the vanished fortresses, only one tangible trace survives, the keep known as the Tour Jeanne d'Arc, the last remnant of the Bouvreuil castle built by Philip Augustus. Everything else lingers in the fabric of the city: street and square names, a relocated gate, a casemate rediscovered beneath a school.
