Fort du Guesclin stands on a rocky islet linked to the coast at Saint-Coulomb during low tide, between Saint-Malo and Cancale. Built in the eighteenth century to Vauban's design on the site of a medieval castle, it was later converted into a private residence. Singer Léo Ferré lived there for about ten years and wrote several songs on the island, including La Mémoire et la Mer. The fort remains privately owned today and can be seen from the shore or while crossing the sandy causeway.
