To make a day of it
Wehrkirche (Angeltürn) stands in Boxberg (Main-Tauber-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Wehrkirche of Angeltürn stands above the village on a rocky spur overlooking a tributary of the Angeltürner Bach, in the municipality of Boxberg. First documented in 1322, it was likely built as a Catholic pilgrimage church before becoming Lutheran and later Reformed from 1589 onward. Its chancel holds six Gothic wall frescoes dating from around 1450, painted within the window niches, along with a small wall tabernacle and the coat of arms of the Knights of Rosenberg carved into the vault. The present structure results from a rebuilding carried out under the Rosenberg family, after the earlier medieval church had become too dilapidated to remain standing.
