The Wasserburg Haus Welbergen stands amid broad moats fed by the Gauxbach, near Ochtrup in the Kreis Steinfurt. First documented in the 13th century, it combines a brick manor house with stepped gables, an irregular outer bailey and farm buildings added between the 16th and 19th centuries. Visitors cross a sandstone bridge from 1755, marked by a statue of St John of Nepomuk, before reaching the former drawbridge leading to the main house built between 1560 and 1570. The surrounding park and woodland paths, as well as the inner courtyard, remain open to walkers throughout the year.
