To make a day of it

Wallanlage Kirchberg in Möbisburg stands in Erfurt (Erfurt), in Thuringia, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

On the Kirchberg hill southwest of Erfurt, a narrow ridge overlooking the Gera river holds the remains of a fortified enclosure whose origins go back to the La Tène period. The site was inhabited continuously from the late Neolithic onward, and a new fortification was built here during the Carolingian or Ottonian era, the same period linked to the church later erected on the grounds. Visitors today find an earthen rampart, a ditch and artificially steepened slopes rather than a castle in the usual sense. The place gave its name to the village of Möbisburg and remains tied to local legends suggesting an earlier cult site.
