To make a day of it
Turmhügel Birkensee stands in Offenhausen (Landkreis Nürnberger Land), in Bavaria, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.
The Turmhügel Birkensee is what remains of a small medieval motte, long since vanished, near the hamlet of Birkensee in the municipality of Offenhausen. All that survives of this lordly seat is a mound bordered by a ditch and a rampart to the northwest, covering a rectangular area of roughly 15 by 5 metres. Historians generally regard it less as a stronghold than as a mark of status, since its modest size and position offered little real defensive value. Visitors come here to read a landscape rather than to view standing walls.
