To make a day of it
Tucherschloss stands in Nürnberg (Nürnberg), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Adult admission costs 7.5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Tucherschloss stands in Nuremberg, Bavaria, on grounds that had belonged to the patrician Tucher family since the fourteenth century. Built of ashlar stone between 1533 and 1544 for Lorenz Tucher and his wife Katharina, the house was never a year-round residence but a summer retreat for gatherings and leisure. Its street front is deliberately plain, in keeping with Nuremberg's old building regulations, while the inner courtyard unfolds a Renaissance display drawing on several countries, crowned by a staircase tower recalling French models. Now a museum, it houses the furniture, tapestries and paintings once owned by the Tucher family, rescued when the building burned down in the Second World War.
What to know
- The current building is a reconstruction, as the schloss burned down to its foundations during the Second World War.
- The museum has occupied the house since 1969 and displays original Tucher family furniture, tapestries and paintings.
- A visit takes in the entrance hall with its treasure chambers, the first-floor living quarters and the grand reception rooms upstairs.
- A Renaissance garden and an inner courtyard are part of the property.
- The building is listed as a Baudenkmal in Bavaria.
