To make a day of it
Schwanenburg stands in Kleve (Kreis Kleve), in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
The Schwanenburg overlooks the town of Kleve from a spur of the Lower Rhine hills, making it one of the few hilltop castles in that region. The site was held from the Middle Ages by the counts and later dukes of Cleves, before being reshaped in the 17th century in Dutch Baroque style under stadtholder John Maurice of Nassau-Siegen. Its most recognisable feature is the Schwanenturm, a tower tied to the legend of the Swan Knight, which now houses a geological collection belonging to the local heritage museum. Since the castle today serves as the seat of the Kleve district court, much of the interior is not open to casual visitors.
