Zossen castle stands on a slight rise within what is now the town park, at the heart of Zossen. Founded in the 13th century as a moated stronghold, likely on the site of an earlier Slavic fortification, it changed hands and purpose repeatedly over the centuries before ending up as an office building after German reunification. Visitors can still make out barrel-vaulted cellars, a hall with star vaulting, a half-circular rondel and a former gatehouse, remnants of a long military and manorial past.
