This Schloss of fieldstone, built over a 14th century moated castle, owes its fame to the so called Soldier King, Frederick William I of Prussia, who made it his favourite residence in the 18th century. Here he held his tobacco colleges and signed the order that led to the execution of Hans Hermann von Katte, a friend of his son, the future Frederick II. The nearly square two storey building retains an offset staircase tower on its courtyard front and a festival hall decorated with paintings he himself commissioned. Turned into a museum in 2000, it can be visited together with its waterside garden.
