Burg Bärwalde stands on a low rise in the Niederer Fläming area of Brandenburg, on the site of an earlier Slavic earthwork reshaped in the 13th century. Of the Gothic moated castle, and of the manorial schloss that later replaced it, only a residential tower built of bog iron ore remains standing, together with the ruins of a vaulted hall and an adjoining room. The unfenced site is reached along a chestnut-lined avenue leading from the village to the ruin.
