To make a day of it

Schloss Wildeck stands in Zschopau (Erzgebirgskreis), in Saxony, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Wildeck rises on a rocky spur above the Zschopau river, overlooking the town that bears the same name. Originally a fortification guarding a crossing on the Old Bohemian Path, it was rebuilt as a Renaissance hunting lodge in the mid 16th century under Duke Moritz of Saxony. Its most recognisable features are the massive keep known as Dicker Heinrich and the slender stair tower called Schlanke Margarete, both still framing the inner courtyard. Inside, painted coffered ceilings uncovered during building work in 1980 remain on view.
