Schloss Waldenburg stands on a rocky spur above the Hohenlohe plain, on the edge of the town of Waldenburg. First recorded as a fortress in 1253 and held by the House of Hohenlohe, it was rebuilt as a Renaissance residence in the 16th century, with later alterations reshaping parts of the structure. Largely destroyed by artillery fire in 1945, it was reconstructed between 1948 and 1963. The castle remains in the hands of the Hohenlohe-Waldenburg-Schillingsfürst family.
