Schloss Waldau stands at Vohenstrauß, just below the older Burg Waldau which it replaced once that medieval stronghold fell into disrepair in the late 17th century. Built under the barons von Rummel, the three storey hip roofed building still includes the wing added at a right angle in a second building phase, along with a baroque staircase connecting it to the remains of the old castle. Around the site, sections of the former moat and rampart have been turned into an English style garden, and a statue of Saint John of Nepomuk bearing the combined Rummel and Podewils coat of arms stands in front of the building.
