To make a day of it

Burg Waldau (Vohenstrauß) stands in Vohenstrauß (Landkreis Neustadt an der Waldnaab), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.

In Vohenstrauß, in Bavaria, the Waldau ensemble combines the remains of a medieval hilltop castle with the schloss built below it in the second half of the 17th century, once the older fortress had become too dilapidated to maintain. The lords of Waldau, attested since the early 13th century, were succeeded by several noble families, among them the Rummel, who erected the present schloss together with its chapel. Visitors today find a three storey hip roofed building linked by a baroque balustraded staircase to the ruins of the former palas, along with an 18th century statue of John of Nepomuk bearing the combined coat of arms of the Rummel and Podewils families.
