Burg Falkenberg stands in Falkenberg (Landkreis Tirschenreuth), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 12th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Burg Falkenberg rises above the narrow streets of the village of Falkenberg in the Upper Palatinate, built on a granite outcrop that gave its name to the local rock formation. First mentioned indirectly in 1154, it passed through the hands of the Falkenberg lords, the Leuchtenberg family, and the monastery of Waldsassen before coming under the Palatinate electorate. Rebuilt between 1936 and 1939 by the diplomat Friedrich-Werner von der Schulenburg, who was later executed for his part in the 20 July 1944 plot against Hitler, the castle is now owned by the municipality, which runs a museum on this history alongside hotel rooms. Visitors can see both the medieval remains and the granite rock beneath the castle, recognised as a notable geological site.
