To make a day of it

Schloss Tann stands in Tann (Rhön) (Landkreis Fulda), in Hesse, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Tann brings together three wings named after colours, the Red, the Blue and the Yellow, built around an almost square courtyard by three branches of the same family, the von der Tann, who have owned the estate since the Middle Ages. The present complex replaced a lowland fortress of the 12th century, reshaped from the 16th century onward by the heirs of a jointly held lordship. Visitors notice above all the polygonal tower of the Blue Schloss, covered with coats of arms and Latin inscriptions tracing the family's genealogy across two generations, a heraldic display unmatched in this scale anywhere else in Hesse. Carved portals, painted half timbering and stones engraved with dates and names still mark the facades of the three wings.
