To make a day of it
Schloss Rotenberg stands in Rauenberg (Rhein-Neckar-Kreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Rotenberg rises above the village of Rotenberg, part of the municipality of Rauenberg, on the site of a medieval stronghold that no longer exists. First recorded in 1255 as Rodenburg, the fortress long belonged to the prince-bishops of Speyer and was besieged, pawned and burned down several times over the centuries before falling into ruin in the nineteenth century. The building seen today dates from a reconstruction carried out in 1921 and 1922, which kept only the sixteenth-century Renaissance portal bearing the bishop's coat of arms from the earlier structure. It now forms a two-winged complex with a round corner tower and a neo-Renaissance oriel facing the valley.
