Schloss Obernzell stands in Obernzell (Landkreis Passau), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Adult admission costs 5 EUR. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Standing on the bank of the Danube, Schloss Obernzell developed from a moated stronghold begun under the Passau bishop Georg von Hohenlohe and completed around 1426 by his successor Leonhard von Laiming. Its present Renaissance appearance dates from building works carried out between 1581 and 1583 under prince-bishop Urban von Trennbach. Inside, visitors can see a late Gothic chapel with fragments of wall paintings from the 15th century, along with a large hall known as the Rittersaal, featuring a reconstructed coffered ceiling and still used for concerts. The building now houses a museum devoted to ceramics and to the history of the Danube region.
