Schloss Monaise stands in Trier (Trier), in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.
Schloss Monaise stands on the banks of the Moselle, in the Trier district of Euren. Built between 1779 and 1783 for a Trier ecclesiastical dignitary as a summer residence, it is an early classicist building and one of the best preserved German examples of a suburban villa from the late 18th century. Notable features include the wide terrace, the grand outdoor staircase and the reception rooms on the first floor, designed for entertaining rather than for daily living. Owned by the city of Trier, the building now houses a restaurant.
What to know
- The Schloss today houses a restaurant and is not open for general sightseeing as a museum would be.
- The original rural surroundings have largely disappeared due to an industrial and commercial zone built on the former estate land.
- A park still surrounds the building, despite changes to the wider landscape.
- The former manor farm nearby now serves as an equestrian centre.
- The building is listed as a Kulturdenkmal in Rhineland-Palatinate.
