Schloss Malching stands in Malching (Landkreis Passau), in Bavaria, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

The Schloss Malching no longer stands: it was a moated manor built in the early 15th century next to the fortified church of Malching, in Lower Bavaria. Together with the church, it formed a single walled precinct, guarded by gate towers and a battlemented wall. The building was pulled down in 1750 by its owners, the Baumgartner family, who reused the stone to extend the Schloss Ering, and today only the wall running along the street around the church, together with the underground remains, survives as a protected archaeological site.

What to know

  • The castle itself has been gone since 1750, so there is no building left to visit on site.
  • What remains visible is the enclosure wall running along the street around Malching's church.
  • The site is classified as a Bodendenkmal, meaning buried archaeological remains with no visitor facilities.
  • There are no opening hours or admission fees, as this is an open outdoor area next to the parish church.
  • The interest of the place is mainly historical, best understood alongside the village of Malching and its fortified church.
