Schloss Löwenberg stands on the site of a medieval Burg whose remains, buried beneath the lower floors, date back to the mid 13th century. In the early 18th century, once the stronghold had fallen into ruin, a baroque manor house was raised on its foundations, incorporating the vaulted cellars of the old keep and hall into its new masonry. The present building, two storeys high under a hipped roof, thus carries the layered traces of eight centuries of use. The moat that once surrounded the fortified platform can still be traced, though it has long been dry.
