Schloss Kartlow stands in Kruckow, in the Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on a site occupied since the 13th century by a stronghold of the dukes of Pomerania. The current building was erected between 1853 and 1859 for Woldemar von Heyden, to designs attributed to Friedrich Hitzig, a pupil of Schinkel. Its architecture blends Renaissance and Gothic Revival elements in a deliberately asymmetrical composition, featuring three towers of differing shapes, including an octagonal tower that dominates the structure. The surrounding park was laid out at the same period by Peter Joseph Lenné.
