To make a day of it

Burg Klempenow stands in Breest (Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Recorded dating: 13th century. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Klempenow Castle stands on the marshy ground of the Tollense valley near Breest, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Founded in the 13th century by the dukes of Pomerania, it belonged to a chain of fortifications guarding the river crossings between Altentreptow and Demmin. Its keep and surrounding wall, dating from the mid to late 13th century, are among the oldest surviving parts, while the rest of the complex was repeatedly extended, damaged and rebuilt into the 19th century. After serving as a farming estate and later as housing after 1945, the castle has since been restored by a local association and is open to visitors.
