Schloss Kalkhorst stands apart from the village, close to the Leonorenwald woods in the Klützer Winkel region. The von Biel family laid its foundation stone in 1853, building it in a neo-Gothic style shaped by northern German brick architecture, with construction lasting until the late 1860s. Over the following century the building served many different purposes, including a Nazi-era training centre, a hospital and later a psychiatric facility, before private owners began restoring it from 1999 onward. Some of its rooms now host concerts, exhibitions and weddings, set within an extensive English-style landscape park.
