Schloss Demerthin stands in Gumtow (Landkreis Prignitz), in Brandenburg, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. Its opening hours and prices have not been verified at the source yet.

Schloss Demerthin stands in Gumtow, in the Landkreis Prignitz, Brandenburg, as one of the few civic Renaissance buildings in the region to have survived largely unaltered. The small two storey manor house, topped with a saddle roof, owes its present appearance to the year 1604, when Katharina von Oppen, widow of Andreas von Klitzing, had the family seat rebuilt. Its most striking feature is the octagonal staircase tower with a crowning cap dominating the courtyard front, alongside a richly carved Renaissance portal in mannerist style. Surrounding farm buildings and remnants of the original park complete the estate.

What to know

  • The building has belonged to the municipality of Gumtow since 1993, following a facade restoration completed in 2004.
  • The ground floor currently displays a collection of regional farming implements, while plans for a local history museum remain unfinished.
  • Interior visiting options are therefore limited, with most interest lying in the exterior architecture.
  • No opening hours, admission fees or accessibility details are available for this site.
  • The manor stands in the small hamlet of Demerthin, away from Brandenburg's main tourist routes.
