To make a day of it

Schloss Dautenstein stands in Seelbach (Ortenaukreis), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Schloss Dautenstein stands at Seelbach, in the Ortenaukreis, in Baden-Württemberg, on the site of a former moated Tiefburg founded around 1235 by the imperial ministerial family of Dautenstein. The original structure, laid out on a rectangular plan with four round corner towers in the Hohenstaufen style, formed a defensive line together with the Tiefburgen of Schwanau and Lahr. Destroyed during the Peasants' War and later rebuilt as a Renaissance residence for the lords of Hohengeroldseck, it was burned down in 1636 and remained a ruin for decades before being reconstructed in the early 19th century. The present building, privately owned, occupies only part of the original complex.
