Schloss Bützow stands in Bützow (Landkreis Rostock), in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. The building is a listed Baudenkmal. No visits are on record for this building.
Schloss Bützow stands on the site of a former episcopal stronghold in the Mecklenburg town of Bützow, facing the Schlossplatz. Built in the 13th century as a fortified seat for the bishops of Schwerin, it was transformed into a Renaissance schloss in the 16th century under Duke Ulrich of Mecklenburg, whose coat of arms can still be seen carved on the facade. The Gothic, cross-vaulted chapel from the medieval building survives, along with a polygonal stair tower that gives the building its distinctive profile. Over the centuries the schloss served in turn as a university building, a courthouse, and a local museum, before being sold to private investors after German reunification.
