To make a day of it

Ruine Landauhof stands in Ertingen (Landkreis Biberach), in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

Burg Landau once stood on a spur above the Danube valley, close to the hamlet of Landauhof within the municipality of Ertingen. First recorded in 1256, it belonged to the lords of Grüningen-Landau before changing owners several times and being destroyed before 1544. No stonework remains on site, as the ruins were quarried to build the neighbouring Landauhof farmstead. Visitors today find an open landscape rather than a ruin, set within a protected area of meadows, orchards and woodland designated in 1995.

What to know

  • No stone remains are visible on site, the former castle ground is now open grassland.
  • The location sits on a spur above the Danube, right next to the privately owned Landauhof farm.
  • The surrounding area has been a protected landscape since 1995, making it primarily a nature walk rather than a monument visit.
  • There are no opening hours or admission fees, as the site is an unrestricted outdoor area.
