To make a day of it

Niederungsburg Naugarten stands in Nordwestuckermark (Landkreis Uckermark), in Brandenburg, Germany. No visits are on record for this building.

The Niederungsburg Naugarten is a former Slavic Burgwall, a lowland fortification, lying in open fields on the shore of Lake Naugarten at the eastern edge of the village of Naugarten. Built between the 8th and 10th centuries by the Ukrani, a tribe belonging to the Wilzi confederation, it formed an oval enclosure of a single rampart line, over one hundred metres across. Centuries of farming have flattened much of the earthworks, yet the outline of the stronghold can still be traced on the ground. No written records mention the site, and the reasons for its abandonment sometime between the 9th and 10th centuries remain unknown.
